We have found that the easiest way for you to send us a copy
of your Quicken & Cashbook datafile
is to do a “Backup” and email it to us at info@lrw.com.au
or to burn it to CD Rom.
Otherwise, you can do a “Backup” to floppy disk as follows:
- Obtain a new disk or re-format a used disk (just deleting the
files on the disk is not sufficient)
- Open your Quicken data file
- From the file menu select "Backup", you will then
see the Backup file window, remember to select the "A"
drive otherwise the backup will be saved on your hard drive and
then select OK to continue and follow the prompts on the screen
If you want to check if the backup has worked
- From the file menu select "Restore", then select the
"A" drive
- You should see the backup filename in the display window
- Select this datafile and select "OPEN" to restore
this file but remember to select the "C" drive as the
save to drive otherwise the file will try to save it back to your
floppy disk
If the Quicken file opens OK then the backup has worked and the disk
is OK to send to us

To see a list of your tax codes from the "list" menu select
"tax table". Note you must have first turned on "TAX"
Quicken uses letter tax codes for income and number tax codes for
expenses
S: use this code for all your normal GST income
F: use this code where there is no GST added to the income
4: use this code for all your normal GST expenses
5: use this code where there is no GST added to the expense
NOTE: do not use a tax code for transactions where GST does not apply,
such as loan repayments, drawings, private expenses, transfers, wages,
quarterly GST/PAYG payment etc

Quicken Annual Accounts
Reports
We find the following reports the most useful when preparing your
annual accounts and taxation returns
- Business profit & loss statement
- We prefer you to do a separate report for each business
bank account rather than select all accounts and combine into
one report
- We also prefer you to select all transactions rather than
only tax related transactions for business bank accounts
- Transaction report by category
- Remember to select subtotal by category and select all transactions
If you also use Quicken for private bank accounts or credit cards
(which include some tax items) then the above reports should be run
with "only tax related transaction" selected
